Tucker has a way of holding onto its history. The old railroad depot still stands near Main Street, and the city’s tree canopy, one of the densest in DeKalb County, shades neighborhoods that date back to the early 1900s. Those mature trees are beautiful, but their roots have been working their way into sewer laterals for decades. Clay tile pipes crack. Roots find the gaps. Water backs up into basements and crawl spaces, and suddenly a quiet residential street has a sewage problem that needs immediate attention. We see this pattern often in Tucker. The city’s older sewer infrastructure and its abundance of mature trees create conditions that don’t exist in newer suburbs. But we also work in the newer developments along Lawrenceville Highway and the commercial corridors near Northlake, where a failed supply line or a storm damaged roof can create a different kind of mess. Two very different problems, one team that knows how to handle both.
