The wind stops. The rain slows. The sky clears. That’s when most homeowners walk outside to assess what happened and that’s also when the real work starts. A missing shingle looks minor until the next rain finds its way into the attic. A downed limb seems manageable until you notice it took the gutter and fascia with it. Storm damage rarely announces its full extent on the first look.

If a storm just passed through, there are a few things you can do right now that will help your claim and limit further damage. These are the questions we hear most often in the first hours after a storm. If you’re not sure about something, call us before you act.

Q: Should I tarp my own roof after a storm?

A: Only if it’s safe and you can do it without climbing on damaged structures. Falls are the most common storm-related injury. If there’s any doubt about the roof’s integrity, wait for a professional. We provide emergency tarping as part of our response.

Q: How do I know if my roof has damage I can't see?

A: Check the attic after any major storm. Look for daylight coming through the roof deck, water stains on rafters, or damp insulation. From outside, check for missing shingles, dented gutters, and granules collecting at downspouts. If you’re unsure, get an inspection.

Q: My basement flooded during the storm. What now?

A: Don’t wait. Standing water in a basement can reach the main floor within hours and cause mold growth within a day. Turn off electricity to the area if it’s safe, then call us. We extract water, dry the space, and treat for contamination if needed.

Q: Will my insurance cover storm damage?

A: Most policies cover wind, hail, and storm-related water damage, though flood damage usually requires separate coverage. We document everything with photos and detailed reports and communicate directly with your adjuster to support your claim.

Q: How long does storm damage restoration take?

A: Minor repairs may take a few days. Larger losses involving roof replacement, water damage, or structural repair can take weeks. We provide a clear timeline after assessment and keep you informed throughout the process.
